The KES Easter Rugby and Hockey Festival was first staged in 2002 as a key event in celebrating King Edward VII School`s Centenary. It was originally planned as a once off Festival but as a result of the huge success it turned out to be, it has become an integral component of the School`s annual calendar.
The KES Easter Rugby and Hockey Festival has a unique `family` flavour and is considered an annual pilgrimage for multitudes of old boys, and friends of the School. Senior rugby and hockey teams, as well as enthusiastic Primary School teams showcase their skills over a period of 3 days. 39 teams in 2015 will participate and provide visitors and supporters with a feast of top class schoolboy sport.
If you are coming to Johannesburg for the KES Rugby Festival then it is ideal to stay at Abbotsford House. Abbotsford House is a short 9 minute drive at most times of the day. You travel north along Elm Street and down Munro Drive. At the traffic lights at the bottom of Munro Drive you turn right and first left. You are now in 3rd Street, Houghton. You continue travelling downhill past Houghton Primary School, past Houghton Golf Course and all the houses built along the perimeter of Houghton Golf Course.
Cross 11th Avenue and follow the road as it winds and changes name to Beaumont Street. When you get to the corner of Beaumont and Pretoria Streets there is a traffic light and on the corner there is a vet and a small shopping centre. At this corner turn right into Pretoria Street. At the next traffic light about 500m away turn left into Park Street.
Abbotsford House is the property right in front of the Park Street development (which is still under construction). Th entrance is around the corner in First Street.
ALternatively when you drive out of King Edward VII school you can continue along St Patricks Road until you reach Houghton Drive / Joe Slovo and turn right, continue on to the M1 north and then off at Glenhove Road, turn right, past the Shell and continue to the traffic light at the Oaklands shops and vet. Turn left, turn second right into First Street. Abbotsford House is the guest house on the right hand side as you reach the stop street on the corner of Fourth Street.
