St Mary’s School, Waverley, is an independent school catering for girls from pre school to matric. It was established in 1888, making it Johannesburg’s oldest school. Its rich history, its leadership and its Anglican tradition and ethos ensure that it remains relevant in the South African context yet offers an education for a 21st century global world.
St Mary’s School is always staging events from cooking demonstrations to musical concerts, theatrical performances and the annual hockey festival to name but a few.
Abbotsford House is an easy 4 minute drive or 17 minute walk from St Mary’s school. However the walk would be very tiring as it is down hill and then uphill in both directions.
Abbotsford House offers accommodation in beautifully appointed rooms all with free wi-fi. The ensuite bathrooms have ensuite bathrooms with bath and shower except the Lavender Room which offers only a shower in its ensuite bathroom.
There is a parklike garden which is shady in summer but the trees lose their leaves meaning the garden is sunny in winter as are our north facing bedrooms.
Dinner is available on request but there are many excellent restaurants available close by. Those in Norwood are part of the local Mr Delivery service or you can go to Melrose Arch or the nearby Oaklands shops.
